An Interview With Dr. Jacobs, A Qualified Plastic Surgeon In Anchorage

1. How soon after breast augmentation surgery can I raise my arms up over my head?

You can raise your arms over your head immediately after a breast augmentation.  In fact, it is recommended to move your arms after your surgery to keep the implants soft.

2. Does having implants mean limits to any activities?

It is recommended not to lift any heavy objects or engage in strenuous exercise for one to two weeks after your surgery.  After the post-operative period, you do not have to limit your activities in any way.

3. What is a "Breast Compression Clamp" and what is it for?

I have never heard of this.

4. After augmentation, will my own breast tissue change size?

After breast augmentation, your own breast tissue will not change in size.  However, your overall breast size will obviously be larger.

5. After augmentation with Silicone gel implants, how often does the FDA advise an M.R.I. to check for failure?

After breast augmentation with silicone gel implants, the FDA has recommended that an MRI be performed after three years followed by an MRI every two years afterwards.  This recommendation is only to see if the implant has leaked even though the risk of leaking is very small.

6. Is it true that re-operation can be done through the navel?

The navel is far from the location of the implants. Therefore, If re-operation is needed, it is usually not recommended that it be performed through the navel. In addition, the other options for the incision create scars that are usually very difficult to see.
