1. What prevents bacteria from getting into implants?
Bacteria cannot get into pre-filled implants, such as silicone gel implants. Bacteria can get into saline implants via poor surgical technique. Because all implants have to go through the skin, bacteria can occasionally contaminate the implant shell and lead to loss of the implant or increased scarring around the implant.
2. What about mammograms after breast augmentation?
Additional views will be needed following a breast augmentation, occasionally supplemented by Ultrasound or MRI.
3. What is a "Spectrum" implant and why would someone want one?
The Spectrum implant is one that can be adjusted postoperatively via and injection port. It is of limited usefulness, and rarely used by experienced breast surgeons.
4. What are the specifications for the different implants?
There are many different styles and shapes of breast implants. The experienced breast surgeon helps the patient chose the best one for them.
5. Can implants cause breast cancer?
No.
6. How do I keep my breast augmentation private?
Choose a size that fits your frame.
7. How can a woman decide what size implants she wants?
Look at pictures of women of similar build to the patient with different size results and communicate to the surgeon what you find attractive.
