An Interview With Dr. Jonathan Kaplan, M.D. , A Qualified Plastic Surgeon For Moms In New Orleans

1. How long are the incisions used for breast augmentation?

The incisions used for breast augmentation are 3-4cm long.

2. How can I "care" for incision after the surgery, so that it heals as nicely as possible?

The surgeon minimizes tension with the closure of the incision and this helps it heal nicely. After 2 months, you can start to use Mederma cream also to help.

3. Can I get silicone implants for my first breast augmentation?

Yes, you can get silicone implants for your first breast augmentation.

4. Can silicone gel move outside the pocket, or scar capsule?

Not typically. The older implants were made of a liquid and maybe this was possible but now that the current implants are a gel and more viscous, this is very unlikely.

5. Will I get stretch marks when I have my breast augmentation? Can I prevent them?

If you enlarge them too much, stretch marks are more likely. The best way to avoid this is get implants that aren' t too large and are appropriate for your body shape.

6. Will I have to massage my implants (smooth and textured)?

Massaging the breasts can potentially reduce the thickness of the capsule that forms around all implants.

7. Will smoking affect my recovery?

It can affect wound healing.
