1. What prevents bacteria from getting into implants?
Bacteria may be in the tissue surrounding the implant but, the implant cover is impervious to bacteria invading it.
2. What about mammograms after breast augmentation?
Mammogram after augmentation is different from patients without implant. Patient should tell the radiologists that they have implants so, they will take different angles of X-rays.
3. What is a "Spectrum" implant and why would someone want one?
Spectrum is a special implant. Some surgeons prefer it thinking it may reduce scar formatiom, but really it may not be better than the smooth implants that a lot of us use.
4. What are the specifications for the different implants?
There are different shape implants some are "tear drop shapes",some round and some almost spuare shape.
5. Can implants cause breast cancer?
There is no valid study to substantiate some thinking that implant may have something to do with breast cancer. I haven' t seen it in my patients and recently, studies came supporting the notion that implants have nothing to do with cancer.
6. How do I keep my breast augmentation private?
Breast augmentation and so almost every cosmetic surgery should be kept private. Some physicians do those cases in their offices but, legally this information should not be given to anybody without the approval of the patients.
7. How can a woman decide what size implants she wants?
The size of implants nowadays is easier to determine as there are Bras the patient wear and an implant put in a pocket in the Bra to determine the appropriate size.
